When and where will the NYC Cupcake Run take place?

The NYC Cupcake Run will take place on Saturday, October 12, 2019 in Astoria Park which is located in Queens. The run will begin promptly at 11AM (check-in opens at 10:15AM). Participants are asked to arrive no later than 10:45AM. Check in will take place on the northern side of the park (Ditmars Boulevard between 19th Street and Shore Boulevard). This is also the location of the starting line and finish line.

What does participating entail?

Starting at 11AM, participants will run two laps around the park, counterclockwise. The total distance of the race is five kilometers (3.1 miles). Participants will consume three cupcakes during the race: one cupcake halfway through the first lap, one cupcake at the end of the first lap, and one cupcake halfway through the second lap. The first person to complete the run will be crowned the NYC Cupcake Run Champion!

How do I register?

Registration is simple. Just click here and fill out the registration form!

Do I have to register online beforehand?

Yes. All participants must register beforehand, as there will be no walkups the day of the event. Please note that space is extremely limited and we expect the run to sell out well in advance.

Who can participate?

The event is open to anyone and everyone. Although some people run this race competitively, everyone is welcome and encouraged to participate at their own pace.

How much does it cost to participate?

The cost of participation is $60 ($45 for early bird tickets). This fee includes the following: an official race bib, an NYC Cupcake Run t-shirt, three cupcakes to be consumed during the race, a cupcake gift bag to be distributed following the race, and a free drink & lunch at Rocky McBrides after the race. A portion of the proceeds will also be donated to the New York Cares.

Are there prizes?

Absolutely! This is a competition, after all. We’re still finalizing the specifics, but we can tell you we’re quite excited about the prizes we’ve already secured.

Is there a charitable component to the race?

Of course! As noted above, a portion of the proceeds from this event will benefit the New York Cares. You can learn more about the organization here. New York Cares meets pressing community needs by mobilizing caring New Yorkers in volunteer service. If you’d like to make an additional donation to New York Cares, you can do so here.

How do I get to the race?

To determine the best way to get to Astoria Park, we suggest using HopStop. The starting line is a 10 minute walk from the N train and Q train stop at Astoria – Ditmars Blvd.

Can I come and watch?

Of course. Even if you don’t want to participate… and don’t know anyone participating, we still think you’ll have a fun time checking out the action.

What if it rains?

The event will take place rain or shine.

Will there be a place to store personal items at the event?

Although there will be an area to put your items, we cannot guarantee that they will be secure. We suggest leaving all valuables at home. Even better – bring a friend to hold on to your stuff while you run!

Where will the cupcakes come from?

The cupcakes you’ll be eating during the race will be provided by Butter Lane– a delicious bakery which is located in the East Village. We think their cupcakes are the best and we know you will too!

Where is the afterparty?

The afterparty will take place at Rocky McBrides (27-01 23rd Avenue). All participants will receive a free drink and have access to specials throughout the afternoon. They will also be providing lunch to all participants too.

What if I have allergies or dietary restrictions?

While the cupcakes we will be using for the race do not contain any peanuts, they are prepared in a bakery which uses peanuts on some of the same surfaces. All cupcakes contain gluten. If you have additional questions about cupcake ingredients, please feel free to contact us. Unfortunately, we cannot make special accommodations for individuals at this time.

How large are the cupcakes?

A little smaller than the size of your fist. We think each cupcake can be eaten in 2-3 large bites!
